All of Football Element must Try to Using GLT
In
modern area, many aspect of life become easier than before especially sport
that also get impact from creature of good technology. The biggest sport in the
world is football, there are so many people want to participate in football
because they likes football so much. Sometime people feels happy, confuse or disappoint with
decision match officials to determine when the controversial thing happens in
scored. Today, goal line technology or GLT can help that difficulties. It is a
technical means of instantly determining whether or not the whole of the ball
has crossed the goal-line, not more not less. However some important
people in football like player and coach in some reason still not receive with
installation of GLT although it already show them that it is very useful in football
because before GLT appears, there are some cases in decision about ball has
crossed the goal-line.
The
former of Manchester United boss said to Daily Mirrors, he is a fan of
goal-line technology but the scots feels any more interference would undermine
referees (David Mcdonnel and Ben Burrows).1 Although many coach has
opinion like the former of Manchester United boss before GLT using in the first
time in FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL 2014, many thing of GLT already explained that
GLT was not to interfere with the game. As a consequence the requirements were
set up determining that only the match officials are to receive a signal to
indicated whether or not the ball has crossed the line (IFAB).2 So,
the technology exactly helps referee because as long as there are no GLT in
real match, referee become main bad characters when they makes mistake. We can
know how GLT works, there are cameras behind the goal and in front of the goal,
so that we cover 360 degrees of the goal. If a goal is scored, referees are
immediately notified by a vibration on a specialized smart watch (Nicole
Bogart).3
In
the first time GLT introduce by FIFA, all of football club that heard
information about GLT still afraid in financial. UEFA president Michel Platini
told a press conference that there are no plans to bring in goal-line
technology as it is too expensive (Angel Krasimirov).4 Nevertheless
the financial problematic is depend on how every club have good method to
prepare their financial. All club can look at Arsenal, ten years ago Arsenal
reported less income than Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle. Now it’s more than
those clubs and in 2009 more than double Newcastel. This show what is possible
with good management and careful investment (Phil Dawkes and Ian Dennis).5
The club must have good preparation in their financial so that they can make a
special calculation also to install GLT.
The opinion
about GLT also invite a commentary from the center of Manchester United, he
told in fans point of view that it’s great traditions. Even goal-line
technology, I don’t agree with it. Incidents like that add to the game because
it runs into radio phone-ins, people talk about it in the pub and in other
media. Was it a goal or wasn’t it? People end up disappointed in those
situations but is swings and roundabouts (Ferdinand).6 Actually in
the controversial match is easy to make fans angry with referee decision, but
GLT has a role to minimize a fight between fans because the violence between
fans, can decrease fans attendance in stadium. Starting from the evidence of a negative trend in the average stadium
presences, experienced by Italian football since the first 80s, an econometric
analysis is proposed to investigate short period determinants of tickets sale
at single match level (Raul)7. According to Italian stadium attendance-descriptive
statistic, total average attendance Serie A plus Serie B in 1984/1985 is 49.36,
it’s decrease in two decades later in 2006/2007 become 27.592. The decrease in
stadium attendance is the consequence of hooliganism as well as the loss of
credibility of football organizations.
Some argue that technology dilutes the essence of the
games. As football is played everywhere, whether it’s big games, for a town
club or on the streets with your friend, the
rule are the same, bringing
technology to the big games means that it creates gap between the high level
games and local clubs, which creates segregation and classification
games(Priya)8. According to the previous explaining, it won’t change
the match. It just about to help decision of referee. one of the challenges in
common match the human eye without GLT
can handle only approximately 16 images per second, which means the ball needs
to be behind the line for at least 60millisecond (Rolf Dittrich)9
As recently as 2010, Sepp
Blatter (President of FIFA) used his ‘President’s Column’ on the FIFA website
to outline why GLT should not be used in football (this column has since been
removed). The rationale behind his argument included issues regarding justice
and the practical implementation of GLT. The ‘nature and value’ of the game
were the focus of his criticisms (Emily Ryall).10 The counter argument asserts that
football is already diverse and the introduction of technology will not change
this fact. Cricket employed technology a long time ago and regardless of
whether it is the local village green game or an international Test Match both
maintain the core constitutive rules, despite the use of differing technology.
The same should apply to football (Joshua Kaye).11
The
introduction of GLT is need time to accept by many peoples that has role in the
football, they cannot directly accept it although it’s good function. It just 3
years from 2012 when the first time GLT introduce by FIFA. Only time will tell
if the introduction is a success. Similarly, it is impossible to predict, at
this stage, whether this introduction will open the door to further technology
to help officiate over other critical decisions, such as off-side rulings and
penalty decisions (Joshua Kaye).
All
of football elements must try to understand clearly about installation of GLT.
However, the creation of GLT itself has good purpose to minimalize some mistake
decision into ball cross the goal. The
introduction is to maintain the game’s integrity then an increase in sport
ethics education is imperative. Rather than just blindly relying on technology,
participants should be taught the importance of being responsible and honest
towards the rules, ultimately becoming better all round ‘sportsmen (Joshua
Kaye).
